5Cool, comfortable, safe

I went down in this jacket last fall. 45 mph lowside and this jacket held up great! Elbow imact absorbed and slid with it zipped to my Joe Rocket Alter-Ego pants. Got up without a scratch. Great gear at a great price!

4Good jacket, fitting issues depending on your build.
By John Doh
Pros:Comfortable and it seems to breath well so far in this Arizona weather. Has elbow, back, and shoulder pads, not sure if they're CE approved. Two side pockets, and one interior sunglass pocket lined with what feels like microfiber so it's nice for my cellphone. Has a little latch for keys on the inside of the jacket as well so you won't misplace them. Comes with a removable wind liner and also has a zipper attachment on the inside back part of the jacket to attach to riding pants. Has velcro strap adjustment of the wrists and waist.

Cons: Came with the tiniest bit of fraying at the cuffs and shoulder logos. The back plate seems a little soft and bendy, not sure how it will absorb impact. Biggest issue is the slack at the arms. I am 5'9" and 170, and my arms aren't pencil like by any means. However, even when I am wearing a medium (which conforms to my torso well), the elbow pads move about quite easily, almost to the point where I can turn the pad completel y to the other side of my arm. This is on the tightest adjustment setting. This would be easily fixed with another set of velcro straps but instead they chose button adjustment instead. I could have went down to a small but then it would have been too short. Also, the washing instructions do not permit machine washing or dry cleaning or anything at all except for gentle hand washing.

So it is a good summer jacket overall, but if you don't have exceptionally large forearms and biceps, I would suggest something with a tighter fit around the arms.

5Top Quality - Don't Settle for Less
By ryebread5if
I looked at and tried on many different summer mesh motorcycle jackets but none of them compare to the Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0. Initially I wanted to save some money and buy a cheap $70 jacket but after receiving my JR I can't believe I even considered other less expensive jackets. The fit alone makes it well worth the money. At 6'2", 180# many other mesh jackets were very big and baggy in the arms as well as the chest. No doubt riding in them would have been uncomfortable as the extra material would've flapped in the wind quite a bit. I don't exaggerate when I say that the Medium Tall is a PERFECT fit. If you're tall/thin like me do yourself a favor and buy a Tall size. Fit is everything. Forget about color-matching your jacket to your bike. I was going to do that but a good fitting jacket looks 100x better (and feels 100x better) than a color-matched jacket that doesn't fit well. JR is definitely quality. Strong yet very breathable mesh, great armor, practical adjustabil ity and many attentions to detail (ie: the shell's zipper has an inner flap to keep wind out AND the liner's zipper is off-set so as to further prevent wind drafts when riding in colder weather, which I have yet to do but I suspect I could make this a 3-season jacket). I've ridden in temps from 70 to 105 (in Indiana, so it's a very humid heat). The Phoenix keeps me cool and dry up to ~100, then it's just hot no matter what. Though I was warm I wasn't sweating bullets because the airflow kept me dry. ATGATT=All The Gear All The Time. Be safe. Buy a jacket. $150 is cheap health insurance.
