5Shoei saved my life
By J. M. Dill
I first reviewed this helmet in 2008 (here on Amazon), and gave it a high rating. The only negative comment I could find for it was a higher-than-expected noise level inside, for which I compensate by use of earplugs.

I was wearing that helmet at 0615, 17 July 2009, at approx. 50 MPH on Avalon Blvd near Milton, FL, on my way to work, when a motorist made an illegal turn in front of me (according to the FHP) and I hit him. I suffered a concussion; 3 broken ribs; collapsed right lung; fracture of 3 discs in the thoracic spine; shattered right wrist; bruises and contusions. After 33' of skidmarks, I went headfirst over the handlebars, through my windshield, over his car and onto the pavement.

The Shoei Multitec saved my life. I still have it: replace the faceshield and the chin strap (cut away by the paramedics), and it might be used again. However: since the interior did its job & compressed to absorb the shock of the collision, it can't be re-use d -- so, after 7 months of operations and rehab, the first purchase I made was a second Shoei, exactly like that first one. And I'm back underway on a twin of the bike I had totalled in that collision.

I'm a 62-year-old, safe, , defensive, committed motorcycle rider. I've ridden since I was 16. This was my first accident on the street, and it nearly killed me. I'm alive because, in a state where helmets are not required, I wear one every time I get on the bike and ride.

I kept that Shoei. It sits on my garage workbench where I can see it, every time I don its replacement and ride. I'll send you a picture of it, if you like. Just let me know.

P.S.: I still have to use earplugs....

5Great full face if you wear glasses
By linux
Like the 1st reviewer, I'm also 62, ridden since I was 16 and actually been in two accidents. Both times the helmets saved me from serious injury, retardation or death. When I bought my last bike, my wife wanted me to get a full face helmet (I'd always used 3/4 helmets), but anybody who wears glasses knows what a hassle it is to either put on the helmet with the glasses on or put on the glasses after the helmet is on. I've had Shoei helmet's in the past so I went with this on. Since you can spread the helmet a bit more when the face shield is up, it's easier to put on than a full face helmet, glasses or not.

It's probably a bit noisier than a FF, but coming from a 3/4 helmet, it doesn't bother me. It fits well and is comfortable. I recommend it.

5Ultimate motorcycling safety and pricey functionality.
By Yurij Trytjak
What can I say but that it's a great helmet. Visibility, left and right, is so clear and distortion free that I don't know I'm wearing a helmet. The weight is just what you might expect from the real thing, not too heavy but not light either. The visor is easy to flip up and the entire face (with visor) flips up and locks with ease and authority. I usually order Large but the Multitec Large was a bit small. So, I exchanged for an XLarge and it fits perfectly. I suggest ordering one size larger than what you might think at first. Looks like a party hat? No! Pricey? You bet! But if I spent say, $200.- for a helmet and ended up in a hospital, I'd like to be in a position where I'm not second-guessing my choice of helmets.
