Product Description

New for 2012 and featuring Boomless ABF Technology, UCLEAR HBC200 Force introduces Super Group Intercom and Multi-Hop technology, specifically designed for group communications with full duplex intercom. Multi-hop technology, used in military tactical communications provides superior sound quality and connection stability over Bluetooth intercom systems that suffer from interference and are "line of sight" dependent. By incorporating Multi-hop technology, each Uclear HBC200 control unit works as a repeater or relay station, enabling the network to grow as more control units/riders are added to the group. Depending on riding conditions, the intercom range between two riders is up to 700 meters. Adding a third unit/rider increases the intercom range up to an additional 700 meters. Add a fourth rider and the entire group can communicate up to 2100 meters (1.3 miles) in full duplex intercom mode.

  • Music, Calls, GPS (Bluetooth devices)
  • Super Group Intercom (Full Duplex 4 riders)
  • Multi-Hop Communication Extender (up to 700 meters between units or 2100 meters (1.3 miles) between four units.)

I did alot of research before choosing the HBC200. I did not choose the HBC 100 because it has basically no range on it. I also did not want a boom mike in my helmet due to reviews that were less than positive for systems that use that type of set up. I am very happy I chose the HBC200. First it was packaged very nice and all items are protected well, second the quality is very good, third the set up was very easy. We used these on our ATV's and could hear each other easily. The range seemed to fluctuate from .25 to .50 miles. When we tested them, it was snowing pretty hard, so my guess is on a more clear day they would be better. I also plan to get the adapters that allow the use of longer range 2-way radios for even longer range. Bottom line is they worked perfectly out of the box with minimal set up time. We have both the iphone and the Samsung Galaxy SIII and set up was easy for both.

4Close, but not perfect

Three of us on open sportbikes (no fairings) used these on a recent 1,000 mile trip. In summary they worked great. The noise canceling, autovox, intercom and GPS audio were impressive, and we're a difficult group to impress. Depending on the helmet and how the speakers are installed they are good up to 70-80mph.

There were some challenges:
The instructions (from two different boxes) were frustrating. We couldn't get them to pair up - eventually we just kept trying different combinations of button pressing and holding and got them to work. The "Answer+Up" on the main unit and "Answer+Down" on secondary units instructions need retesting and rewriting.

They take a few seconds to connect to each other every time they're shut off and then powered back on. There is an audible alert the unit turned on but nothing when they have connected to each other.

After some inactivity on the intercom (time unknown) they go into standby mode (no a udible alert) and you don't know no one else can hear you until no one answers back. You then need to press the UP button (a single tone alert happens) to reconnect the intercoms and wait a few seconds (again, no audible alert) .

I only rated 4 stars since one user had to try 3 different helmets to get the unit to work. We got them to work on an Arai, a Shoei and a Suomy.

I'll be buying some extra speakers sets to wire other helmets I have.

4Good product

So far so good.

Quality: The device itself is made from plastic and supposedly water resistant. The plastic has a rubberized feel that is very smooth, Feels like high quality plastic. The buttons are fairly easy to press. The up and down buttons are easy to locate when you have the helmet on; however, the answer button is the biggest button and you may accidentally miss or press on the incorrect portion of the button. Since the answer button has the biggest surface area, it has a dimple area where you can mistaken it as a button.

Calls: I've only tested this for one day and wow! it is clear! I was even blowing at the microphone and it doesn't record it as sound for the receiver. But once I speak, it immediately picks it up and sends the message. Really Cool technology! You can hear your other riders speak even at about 75mph. I ride an SV650 with an aftermarket exhaust (its loud) and I can still hear my friends speak and they can hear me.

Installation: Installing it on the helmet was a breeze (Arai Corsair V), took me about 5 minutes. You have two choices to mount the device, you can either use the included clamp or an adhesive mount. The dual speakers also have microphones on each one (NO BOOM!) and it is mounted with the included Velcro stickers.

Music is surprisingly GREAT! For riding, I normally use the LG Tone Wireless Bluetooth HBS700 for music, but these sound even better!

Functionality: The functionality of the product is pretty much user friendly. Although I still have to refer to the manual for certain button operations. I'm sure after weeks of testing, it should be memorized. Pairing the devices is a breeze (iphone 5). And you can actually use siri to make calls!

Packaging: Meh, the outside packaging is okay, but once u open the inner box, there's a cheap plastic holder for the device and everything else is just scattered underneath it. I wouldn't be surprised that if you shook this box enough, you'd probably damage the speakers inside. Kinda wish the packaging was more apple-esque.

my BIGGEST gripe with this dual pack is that it DOES NOT come with two charging blocks! ONLY ONE! WHY?? This dual pack was intended to be a split between me and my friend. Now only one of us can charge at a time... In addition, I haven't found a place that sells the block charger. Although I am unsure if I want to use another USB charging block because the manual states to not use anything else.

So to make this clear, this can make and receive calls, listen to music from your phone, and act as an intercom to your other buddies (who have it installed). For $200, this is a great deal! The audio quality alone, I'd pay $100.
